Calling all cannabis lovers, food lovers, alike - America’s first cannabis restaurant has officially opened its doors for business. Lowell Farms Cannabis Cafe opened last week in West Hollywood, making it the country’s first establishment that actually encourages customers to smoke cannabis on-site. The organic, farm-to-table restaurant offers a seasonal menu, carefully paired with a wide array of cannabis products available for consumption in the cafe, including an entire menu of flower, edibles, and pre-rolled joints. From smash burger to pulled pork sandwiches, to strawberry milkshakes, the cannabis cafe’s menu sounds delicious. The restaurant is the first in the country to be granted the appropriate licensure required to operate a cannabis consumption lounge. The cannabis cafe’s website proudly proclaims, “The end of prohibition is here. Eat, drink and smoke cannabis at Lowell Cafe. For over a century we’ve been forced to hide cannabis consumption out of public view, but that time is now over. We’re proud to announce Lowell Cafe – America’s first cannabis cafe serving farm fresh food, coffee, juice, and cannabis daily. Sit on our patio, order a meal, have a conversation and experience cannabis together.” Upon arrival, guests are greeted by “flower hosts,” servers who act as cannabis sommeliers, introducing newcomers to all of the different types of cannabis on the menu. Lily Estanislao, the restaurant’s general manager, said in a CBS interview last week, “So like with a wine sommelier coming to present wine or talk about pairings, that’s ultimately what we want to do.” According to flower host, Bianca Blanche, “Our ultimate goal is to make cannabis like alcohol – treat it like having a wine sommelier talk you through your pairings. We want to do the same with cannabis to take that stigma away.” Said another flower host to CBS, “A couple of questions we ask at first is: what’s your tolerance level, and are you with someone safe or do you have a method to get home after.” The groundbreaking new cannabis cafe was started by David Elias, CEO and co-founder of Lowell Herb Company, one of California’s many luxury cannabis brands. Says Elias, “It’s a place for those who are canna-curious and cannabis connoisseurs looking to experience the plant in a welcoming atmosphere. We believe there needed to be a destination for everyone to openly enjoy cannabis. There hasn’t been anything like this for more than 100 years,” reminiscent of the pre-Prohibition 1920s. Interestingly, the cafe is prohibited from producing its own edible cannabis products, however, they are permitted to sell marijuana edibles produced elsewhere. In a recent CNN interview, a spokesperson for Lowell Herb Company stated, “In harmony with the West Hollywood community, the restaurant will offer a first-of-its-kind nightlife experience. Lowell Farms: A Cannabis Cafe will serve as a welcoming and safe environment for all to enjoy and learn about consumption in the newly legal world of cannabis.” You may want to plan a stop at the Lowell Farms Cannabis Cafe next time you’re near West Hollywood – the cannabis cafe is open every day of the week from 10 am to 10 pm.
