About Big Black

Big Black aka Big Black Indica is an indica-heavy (70/30) hybrid with a lineage that includes not only the well-bred Big Bud and White Widow strains but also the untamed wild genetics of Afghani landrace plants. The strain’s name comes from its overly large nugs, which are fluffy and dark, almost black. The amber hairs are sullen and dark, leading to the strain’s iconic shadowy look beneath its dark green cones. The flavor is a power-hitter of musk and herbs, so brace yourself for Big Black’s pungent effects before diving straight in.

The high of Big Black is a creeping, slow-burning high that sneaks up slowly and waits a while before letting you have it. You’ll feel yourself drop, always more deeply, gradually becoming warm and washed over. Then all of a sudden, the pang in your brain will tell you to relax and veg out as you become rooted to your couch, ready for happy sedation. Other effects include a growling hunger for snacks and a feeling of slow-building sleepiness that will eventually lead to a well-deserved nap.

The THC of the Big Black strain varies widely between crops, with some as low as 14% and others testing as high as 25%. No matter which results you get, the strain is sticky on the outside with a musky, earthy aroma as you break the nugs apart. The flavor has an overtone of herbs and wood, with a funky after-effect like a faint smell of rotting pine. While definitely not for everyone, Big Black is pungent and interesting.

So long as you don’t mind a pungent exhale and the sedation that comes with it, we recommend Big Black for a relaxing evening spent around the house, one where you won’t mind emptying your pantry or lounging on the couch for the rest of the evening. Nappers flock to Big Black because of its ability to relax stressful minds, zone out negative thoughts, and encourage stressless sleep. We like it because even though its THC levels are a bit of a guessing game, its dank and herbal flavors always deliver.

If you plan on growing Big Black, just remember that moisture is an issue for strains with certain landrace genetics. Keep the temperature higher than average and keep an eye out for mold colonies. Expect flowers in around 7-8 weeks, at which point you’ll start to smell that pungent, piney rot that means the buds are on their way.
