About Runtz

History & Genetics

The evenly balanced hybrid known as Runtz (50/50) is one of cannabis’ most famous monarchs. Its phenotypes are numerous and its flavors are practically synonymous with Los Angeles. It comes from a handsome lineage that includes Zkittlez and Gelato strains and is currently taking the Colorado bud market by storm. Dispensaries across the state are getting in on the Runtz game, encouraging people to finally see what all the “buzz” is about.

Appearance, Aroma & Flavor

Compared to traditional Cookies cuts, the Runtz strain grows light and wispy. Its trichomes jut out and grow in stringy calyxes that have a kind of alien charm all their own.

On the flavor front, Runtz is a California (now Colorado) mainstay for a reason. The strain is packed with three dominant terpenes – Beta-Caryophyllene, Linalool, and Limonene – that give it its distinct flavor. It includes both the sweet-sugar excitement of candy and layered tones of woody and tropical citrus. The fruitiness is delicious and the earthiness leaves just enough depth to satisfy users who have a more complex palette.

Effects

The Runtz effects range from calming to tingly-sleepy, the kind of feeling you get when you feel justified doing absolutely nothing at all. We recommend Runtz as a perfect companion for a spa day, a long nap, a do-nothing lazy Saturday, or a movie marathon (provided you don’t mind missing the ending!).

The combination of euphoria and relaxation makes the strain great for low-level body pains and achiness, especially when it’s work-related. It can be a great companion for stressed or high-anxiety individuals who crave a little calm. It makes you hungry too so appetite-suppressed users will love getting their cravings kickstarted by the flavors of citrus and pine.

You may already know Runtz’s reputation from the rounds it’s made in the LA cannabis publications and contests. If you’ve got daily pain or habitual trouble with getting to sleep, now’s the perfect time to see what the fuss with Runtz is all about.

Growing

Runtz is not the easiest strain to obtain in seed form due to its desirability. But if you do get your paws on that sweet citrusy goodness, you’ll be delighted to learn that Runtz grows pretty much anywhere, for growers of any experience level. The plant flowers in 8-9 weeks, harvests at the end of September, and can reach heights of 180cm when grown outside. Yields are good – about 450-500g per square meter of garden whether it’s grown outside or in. It grows ambitiously “upwards,” as you might have guessed from the height measurement we gave, and in its natural growing pattern doesn’t spread out a whole lot.

Those who want to encourage lateral growth can use the Screen of Green method to tease the plant into a more manageable growing pattern. We recommend being generous with the nitrogen in Runtz’s growing environment if you want to start tapping its true potential.

Runtz, flavor of the year on the West coast and a growing classic. One of my favorites to relax with. Has always had nice candy notes with citrus hints. I have grown it and found it to be pretty easy and resilient, and a nice producer. Definitely seems to hit me more on the relaxation side of things regardless of the terp profile or cross.

I got a half oz of this by Western It's a weird but strong hybrid strain. Aroma wise its slightly off putting and scent is sort of soapy but slightly sweet. My friend said the smell alone almost gave him the runs like coffee does like I was saying its a weird one.. Bud appearance is really dark with lots of purple streaks. Its sits at 19% Thc but its strong the dominant terp here is Trans caryophylene. I see so many Runtz varieties but this OG original gets a 4.5 out of 5 from me but I will try others soon!

I was excited to get my hands on some original runtz. It started with me being upset because my delivery service in NJ ran out of Billy Kimber O.G. So the next strongest strain on the $150 an ounce list was Runtz. I am more of an indica guy & the runtz definitely produce more of a sativa high for me, but as far as strains go this one is wonderful. There is a reason that runtz & runt crosses & hybrids & phenotypes have flooded the market. I am glad I got to sample it at least once with a full zip to enjoy. It gets 4 stars from me. Definitely a top strain.
