Native American Teenager, Devontre Thomas, Tells His Story.


An Oregon teenager was being targeted for possession. At the time he was being charged for holding about one gram of marijuana which could have seen him sentenced for up to one year in jail. Recently, charges were dropped after the state’s US senators and a congressman sent a letter of concern. This is an exclusive interview of what happened after charges were dropped.

On Aug. 4, Devontre Thomas learned that federal prosecutors threatening him with a year in prison for a gram of cannabis had backed down and dropped the charges.

Thomas celebrated quietly: He worked a nine-hour shift at the Goodwill in Sandy, then ordered in Chinese food with his girlfriend.
