Head Up into the Hills: 2 Mountain Towns Not to Miss When Visiting Colorado

They don’t call it Rocky Mountain High for nothing. If you’re in Colorado you need to get into the mountains. With over 58 peaks that exceed 14,000 feet and some of the most pristine surroundings you could ever imagine, Colorado’s mountains are not to be missed. There are countless little mountain towns to choose from, and pretty much everyone who lives in these mountain towns smokes weed and are cool af. Following are two of our favs.

If you want to get “real high” in Colorado, think about heading up to 10,200 feet to Leadville. It’s the highest incorporated town in the country and surrounded by some of the tallest mountains in the US. Earls is a dispensary in Leadville run by awesome long-time locals who have over 25 years of experience growing at high altitudes.

After stocking up on supplies at Earls (and they carry everything need), take a short drive out to stunning Turquoise Lake for some serious high-altitude eye candy. The more daring can hike to the summit of Mount Elbert, the highest summit of the Rocky Mountains in North America and the highest point in Colorado. What cannabis consumer wouldn’t want to get high in the highest spots in Colorado?

Manitou Springs

Nestled at the base of famous Pike’s Peak, Manitou Springs is located about 1.5 hours south of Denver right outside Colorado Springs. This quaint, eclectic town named after the Native American word for “Great Spirit” boasts eight natural mineral-spring fountains, musicians playing music in the streets, several art galleries, a multiple-building penny arcade with games spanning some seven decades, and plenty of places to satisfy your munchies.

Located just outside Manitou’s historic downtown area are Maggie’s Farm and Emerald Fields, two recreational dispensaries that stay busy supplying recreational cannabis to locals and tourists alike. Don’t bother looking for recreational cannabis in nearby Colorado Springs. Although it’s Colorado’s second-largest city and expected to outgrow Denver in coming years, Colorado Springs has yet to pass recreational cannabis laws.

A Colorado Vacation with Mary Jane

These are just a couple cannabis-fueled destinations and 420-friendly things to do when planning a Colorado cannabis vacay. With more dispensaries in Colorado than McDonald’s and Starbucks, finding the weed you need is easy. There are also plenty of places to stay that offer pot-friendly smoking rooms, as well as weed-friendly Airbnbs in private residences throughout the state.

As accepted as cannabis is in Colorado, just make sure you’re not that tourist that gives others a bad name. Come and smoke your weed but be respectful of the laws that govern this welcomed freedom. Don’t consume in public just because you think you can. You can’t. Know your limits and enjoy responsibly.

Mary Jane might be the best travel buddy you can take on a trip to Colorado. With stunning mountains, hot springs, hiking for days, breathtaking scenery, and some of the coolest people in the country, a Colorado cannabis getaway is a must for any cannabis consumer who enjoys the “higher” things in life.
