About Candy OG
The Candy OG strain goes by several names, including Candy OG Kush and Kandy Kush. To make matters even more confusing, Candy Kush is a completely different strain, bred from OG Kush and Blue Dream, with a much more Sativa-leaning genetic makeup. The strain we’re looking at, sometimes known as Candy OG, is a cross between OG Kush and Trainwreck, which means that the strain has Afghani landrace and Chemdawg genetics. This highly impacts both its effects and taste. Supposedly, the infamous “Christopher Wallace” cut of OG Kush was the phenotype used to breed Candy OG into the Indica-heavy (70/30), sweet n’ earthy powerhouse it is today.
From the fifth week of growing and on, Candy OG begins producing insane amounts of trichomes, which come with a heavy flow of resin that makes the strain ideal for growers interested in using their crop to farm high-quality concentrates. The buds are vibrant, multicolored, and dense, with a very even structure. The total flowering period averages around 9 to 10 weeks, with an early September harvest when grown outdoors.
GROWING TIPS: Candy OG’s growing structure is typical of Indica strains, with a bushy, short-statured growing formation that usually stays below 4 feet indoors. This makes the strain a good pick for growers with limited vertical growing space, as well as a handy candidate for Screen of Green growing methods (ScrOG). This of course entails encouraging the plant to grow more horizontally to increase the surface area of its light exposure. This is another reason why Candy OG is more ideal for indoor growing situations compared to outdoor (we also recommend low-stress training to encourage a maximum yield from your Candy OG plants).
Candy OG’s flavor is a happy mix of sweetness, from terpenes that encourage flavors of fruit and berries, and an earthy, outdoorsy overtone that tastes like fresh soil, herbs, and pine trees. As you consume Candy OG, you will feel locked to your couch for quite a while, with feelings of lazy sleepiness, like you couldn’t be bothered to do one more thing the whole day. How much you enjoy Candy OG will depend on how much of a good thing you think that is.
As you smoke, the strain can make you feel less pain, as well as less stressed and anxious. Frequent tummy trouble is another reason to take a Candy OG break as the strain is well-known for reducing feelings of nausea. Due to its sleep-inducing effects, insomniacs also love the strain for an evening comedown.
Despite some well-known side effects ranging from paranoia to dizziness, Candy OG is even more well-known for the taste of sweet earth and a feeling like nothing will stop you from sleeping for the rest of the night.
