Senator Elizabeth Warren recently commented that it was possible to learn from the legalization efforts of Alaska, Oregon, Washington, and Colorado. Legalized recreational marijuana is slated to be on this November’s ballot in Massachusetts.

“Massachusetts is in a very difficult position, because we have decriminalized marijuana, but that means it’s fairly widely available,” Warren said, referring to the 2008 ballot initiative that decriminalized small amounts of marijuana in Massachusetts. “But there’s no real regulation of it.”

Additionally, Senator Warren commented on the fact that the way the federal government continues to classify marijuana hinders any serious medical research efforts.

“I think that just makes no sense at all,” Warren said “… I think that what we need is an opportunity to study the drug better and we also need better regulation for it.”
